Ways To Feel Good

Here are some ideas to get started.

1. Walk Whenever You Can
Take short walks during breaks.
Park a little further away or get off the bus one stop early.
Explore local parks and green spaces.

2. Make Everyday Tasks Active
Do a quick stretch while waiting for the kettle to boil.
Turn housework into a mini workout—put on music and move!

3. Move Together
Go for a walk with friends or family.
Join a local walking group or community activity.
Play games with your kids outdoors.

4. Try Something New
Check out free or low-cost classes in your area.
Borrow equipment from community hubs.
Start small—just 10 minutes counts!

5. Use What’s Around You
Take the stairs instead of the lift.
Use benches for step-ups or stretches in the park.
Look for safe routes for walking or cycling near home.

Why It Matters
Every bit of movement adds up. It boosts your mood, improves health, and helps you feel good. Start with what works for you—small steps lead to big changes.

Places and Spaces In Your Local Community

Communities are made up of lots of organisations and services that can support people to move more as part of what they do.

Common spaces and places within communities include libraries, faith settings, workplaces, schools and community centres.

Local organisations can support more residents to move more by:

– Training staff and/or volunteers to deliver exercise sessions e.g.
Movement and Games in Chairs (MAGIC) or walk leaders.

Offering exercise opportunities at venues that are accessible and affordable.

Adding movement into current provision e.g. providing equipment such as a table tennis table or indoor bowls during a coffee morning to make it an active one!

Sign posting to other exciting opportunities going on in the community.

Leisure Centres

Take a leisurely swim or have a splashing time with family or friends in one of the pools across the borough.
