Tahira is a powerful short documentary that follows one woman’s journey of rebuilding her life through trail running in the Yorkshire hills. After experiencing domestic abuse, Tahira discovers strength, connection, and healing through the Due North running community.
What starts as a simple step outdoors grows into something much bigger—a journey towards confidence, independence, and ultimately, helping others find their own way forward. The film is told through a reflective letter to her younger self, weaving between past and present to show how movement, nature, and supportive communities can play a vital role in recovering from trauma.
Produced by Summit Fever Media, Tahira highlights not only a deeply personal story but also the wider impact of inclusive outdoor spaces. Events Due North, who feature in the film, are dedicated to empowering women to get outside by creating diverse and welcoming activities that challenge inequality in the outdoors.
Reflecting on her journey, Tahira shares how far she has come:
“If you had told me 10 years ago that I would be the one confidently supporting women outdoors, I wouldn’t have believed you. For the longest time, I was the one needing that extra push—unsure, lacking courage, and not quite knowing where life was heading. Now, I’m in a completely different place. Showing up, moving my body, and encouraging other women to do the same—especially for their mental wellbeing.”
She also speaks about the importance of feeling comfortable and confident while being active, and how that can remove barriers many women quietly face:
“Being able to stay modest while still feeling confident, supported, and free to move outdoors—it removes a barrier for so many women. It’s not just activewear… it’s reassurance. It’s confidence. It’s feeling comfortable. When you feel comfortable, you show up differently.”
At its heart, Tahira is a reminder that starting doesn’t require perfection or fearlessness—just one small step:
“You don’t have to be fearless to start. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to take one step. And sometimes, that’s all it takes.”
